Setting up for success: 5 goals to crush in 2026

Read Time: 3 minutes

Posted: January 8, 2026

There’s more to love about the start of a new year than clean calendars and leftover holiday cookies. It’s also a fresh start for your organization and an opportunity to ask the big question: “What do we want to accomplish in the year ahead?” Setting clear goals now helps guide your team over the next 12 months. Use these five objectives as inspiration—and with steady focus, hard work and a little luck, 2026 could be your best year yet.

Strengthen financial health

Experts anticipate moderate global economic growth in 2026, so it’s important to ensure finances are in order. Review recent revenue, cash flow, expenses and reserves to build a realistic financial forecast. Use quarterly reviews to update expectations, adjust budgets and make a contingency plan.

Form a team or teams, each tasked with a financial focus. Employees from finance, operations and marketing can bring fresh perspectives, spot opportunities and identify trends. Give company swag, like quarter-zip sweatshirts or crossbody bags, to reward their efforts. With proper planning, your organization will be prepared to invest where it matters—talent or innovation, for example—without overextending.

Deepen customer relationships

Customers are the heartbeat of many organizations, and nurturing those relationships should remain a top priority. Reconnect with existing customers and partners as well as new prospects through surveys, loyalty programs and personalized messages. Send an email or handwritten card thanking customers for their patronage. Include a small thank-you gift, like an air plant, or offer an incentive, such as a multi-tool, for new business.

Innovate and expand offerings

Keep your organization strong by focusing on innovation and finding new ways to bring in revenue. Whether refreshing existing products, launching new services or expanding into fresh markets, investing in creative solutions is essential to remaining relevant. As you deepen customer relationships, collect feedback to ensure new ideas and innovations meet real needs and create value. Gather insights through employee or customer surveys, and give incentives, like pom beanies or tech kits, to encourage participation. By identifying real growth opportunities, your organization can truly stand out from the competition and stay flexible if market trends shift.

Increase operational efficiency

Explore and experiment to strengthen how your organization runs in the new year. Task a team to audit processes and find bottlenecks or redundancies, then look for potential solutions. Use process mapping to visualize workflows and identify delays, waste or causes for concern. Examine all available resources and see what could be better used in another capacity. Solutions might not be obvious, but gradual tweaks could lead to improvements. Give your auditing team branded outdoor coolers to celebrate big wins.

Get back to strategic planning

In the rush of day-to-day operations, it’s easy for long-term strategies to get pushed to the back burner. In fact, 70% of leaders spend less than one day a month reviewing strategy. The start of a new year provides a perfect reminder to pause and refocus on your organization’s big-picture goals. Revisit your strategic plan to best align resources, set priorities and anticipate coming market changes. Give your leadership team monthly planners to get key dates, goals and points of emphasis in writing and keep everyone on the same page throughout the year.

Find success that sticks in 2026

A new year means new opportunities for meaningful growth. When you set goals like strengthening financial health, deepening customer relationships, exploring innovation, increasing efficiency and maintaining strategic planning, you create a roadmap for a successful 2026. Let the goal crushing begin!
